Day 90 – 17th August – Litchfield National Park

We love, love, love Litchfield National Park.  Once again, it has served up an awesome day…

We went exploring in the park today.  First stop was Tjaynera Falls (dunno how to say it…).   To get to the falls we first had to cross this creek.  Check out the sign on the left.  Have you ever crossed your fingers and hoped like nothing else that your car doesn’t break down half way across a creek crossing?  Know that feeling?

Once at the falls we were greeted with this view…  This would have to be one of my favourite waterfalls so far.  The falling water at the top and then the cascading water at the base made for a beautiful waterfall.

We jumped straight into the refreshing water (refreshing is code for cold but not icy) and headed straight for the falls where the boys proceeded to find any rock or rock face they could climb so they could do bombies…

From Tjaynera Falls we drove to Wangi Falls.  The falls weren’t as spectacular but it was still an awesome place to be.  Here are the two falls into a very large pool at the base.  I don’t know how I managed to take this photo without many people in it because there were people EVERYWHERE…

Before we jumped in we followed a walk trail through a fruit bat infested jungle to this platform.  Not sure if it was supposed to be a lookout because all you could see were the tops of the nearby trees…

In the jungle…

Back at the pool we swam over to the waterfall on the left.  If you look real close at the first photo of the Wangi Falls you can see about a third of the way up the flowing water there appears to be a hole or a gap in the flow.  That is actually a small rock pool.  We clambered up the rocks to jump into pool… it was pretty deep.

The boys have ducked under to see if they could touch the bottom… the water was about a foot over Dave’s head

We didn’t stay in there for long because 1) there were no hand holds and not much space to tread water and 2) there was a constant procession of people wanting to get in too…  So we jumped back into the main pool then headed over to the second waterfall.  We then spent the best part of an hour jumping and bombing off the rocks with another two families.

Aiden is working hard on his technique, trying to emulate Dave… he puts a lot of effort into his style… he has such a look of seriousness on his face as he concentrates!

He’s also working on his front flips…

Here’s a shot where he was holding the GoPro as he jumped in… this is the exact moment he hit the water… I thought it was a pretty cool photo…

It was getting pretty late in the afternoon so we drove back to our camp site over at the Buley Rockhole.  Guess what the kids did as soon as we got here?  That’s right, they headed straight for the waterhole for more jumping in like crazies…
