Day Two...

Today was Aiden's second time at daycare and I'm pleased to report he had a better day. It was still a struggle dropping him off and leaving, but once I was gone the carers said he did much better than last week with far less bouts of inconsolable crying. When I went to pick him up he said he had fun and even gave one of the carers a hug goodbye. Unfortunately they couldn't get him to have a sleep with all the other kids so he was only there for just over 3 hours. I am remaining positive - fingers crossed things will improve every week.

The funky JLo look

Another really cool outfit given to Megan as a gift

Jolly Jumper

I was looking through some old scrapbook pages of Aiden when I discovered some photos of him in the jolly jumper at 9 weeks of age... so of course I thought Megan would probably like it too. Sure enough she thought it was pretty good being upright and free to move about.
Aiden at the same age...

Shhhhh don't tell Brett & Cass what we let Charlotte do!

We had the pleasure of babysitting Charlotte today for a few hours. Of course Aiden was rather pleased about this. At one stage they disappeared into his room and Dave discovered this is what they were getting up to:

While we are talking about Brett & Cass - it was Cassie's 30th birthday last week so a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY Cass! Her fabulous hubby bought her a very flash new digital camera.... am thinking I might put in a request for one for my birthday too.

Dave with his hands full...

We took the kids for a walk up to the deli for a newspaper & chocolate frogs and then we headed to the duck pond. Let me tell you that getting two two-and-a-half year olds to walk in the same direction (that is, the direction WE want them to go in) at the same time took some work... but all in all they were quite well behaved.

Our week in review

I haven't posted anything other than my scrapbook pages for a while so I thought I'd fill you in on what we've been up to this week...
********
Dave: unfortunately he got the "thanks but no thanks" phone call from Rio Tinto today. He wasn't overly upset though because 1) we already knew that the other guy had been offered the job and 2) if this other guy takes the job then his job at KNR should hopefully become available to Dave. So we are still waiting...waiting...waiting to see what happens.
Dave's other news is that he had 'THE SNIP' last week and so has been walking around rather gingerly. He had been on the mend and almost walking normally until Aiden jumped on him this arvo...OUCH!
********
Megan: had her immunisation needles last week and boy was she not happy! Thankfully she let out an enormous scream when the needles (2 of them) went in but then settled quite quickly with one of mummy's 'special' cuddles. She also had a check over by the health nurse - she is now a healthy 5kg and 58cm long and is considered quite strong for her age (must be that good breeding stock she came from!).
********
Aiden: had his first day at daycare with mixed results. I went to drop him off and stayed about half an hour to get him settled then made my hasty retreat. The centre then called me before an hour had even gone to say he was not happy so could I come and pick him up. Sure enough I drove all the way there to discover that in the mean time he had settled and was doing OK. So I thought I would leave him a bit longer and he actually lasted for another couple of hours before they rang me again to say he had well and truly had enough. However, when I turned up he was actually keen to stay and play - this tells me he was obviously happy in the environment he just wanted his mum there too. When we finally left he was in the car for all of 2 minutes before he crashed and burned and fell asleep so I am guessing that sheer exhaustion played a part in his final dummy spit. Anyway, I am not disheartened just yet and we will try again next week.
*******
Me: Hank & Vicki left last Saturday so once again I am required to do the dishes, sweep the floor and do the other household chores they were helping out with. So as you can imagine I am feeling a bit sorry for myself!

They're gone...

Oma & Opa have hit the road again. After another enjoyable week and a half with us their feet were once again itchy to see the sights of this beautiful country of ours. Their plans are to make it to Wave Rock (at Hyden) today and then head down towards Esperance after that. I believe that they are under strict instructions to make it home before Michelle's birthday in early September. Once again it was sad to say goodbye... but if everything goes well we may see them again before the year is through.
Here is a photo of Oma's last cuddle with Megan.

They're Back!

When Hank & Vicki left us after Megan was born I said to Dave that I would bet a large amount of money that they would change their plans of travelling to the NT and would instead come back to visit us. And guess what - I was right! We were one very happy family to see Oma & Opa return. They even came back a bit earlier to help me out with the kids while Dave went on a whirlwind trip to Queensland. So far it seems that Hank & Vicki's travelling around Australia is just to go from one babysitting job to another!
Anyone that knows Vicki will know she has a special touch with babies. She has a knack of being able to get Megan smiling and talking.

A day at the zoo

Today the weather was finally good to us so we headed up to Perth to meet Nana & Peter at the zoo. Aiden had an absolute ball. He surprised us all with his stamina... he just runs and runs and runs... He probably covered about 3 times the walking distance that we did and we're all rather tired! It was right at the end of the day (about 5 hours) before we managed to convince him to take a seat in the pram.
Aiden was looking at the meerkats when Dave asked him to smile for the camera. Apparently this is his smile:

Of course Megan seemed to enjoy the day too although she was more intent on checking out the trees overhead than any animals:

I see you...

WARNING: if you come to our house don't leave your glasses or sunnies within reach of a certain 2 year old. As you can see here and the scrapbook page below Aiden is into wearing everyone's glasses at the moment.

Grrrrrrowling Tiger

A BIG thankyou to Cassie for buying Aiden this tiger outfit:

I've been busy...

You may have noticed that my blog updates have been few and far between at the moment. This is for two reasons: 1) I spend all day long running around to meet the needs of two children and I don't get much of a break and 2) we haven't been getting out and about much lately so there isn't much to write about.

Our life is pretty mundane at the moment... Dave goes off to work in the wee hours of the morning and when he comes home we pretty much have to get straight into feeding, bathing, and attempting to get two children asleep. Surprisingly Megan is the angel of the two. I feed her about 7pm after which she proceeds to sleep for 7hours... sometimes even 8 hours! This is unbelievably good for me as I at least get one stint of deep sleep during the night between her feeds. Aiden on the other hand is an absolute nightmare at the moment. He has developed a fear of rain, wind & thunder and of course we are in the middle of winter so several times a night (usually 2-3am) we are woken by a hysterical little boy because it is raining... Hopefully this phase will pass eventually.
Other than the sleep problems we are all well. Dave has actually started a new position at work as a Superintendent so he is keeping busy.

Dave decided to try Megan in the shower about a week or so ago. Of course like her big brother she absolutely loved it. Here is a photo of her first shower:
Megan has been smiling at me for a few days now but today was the first time I managed to capture it on the camera:

Aunty Mel in Brisbane sent this beanie for Aiden - looking at the photo just now I only just realised his jumper matches the logo on the beanie...
