Day 32 – 20th June – Hamersley Gorge & Millstream Chichester NP

Happy 8th Birthday to our beautiful girl!  Megan has been counting down the days and telling everyone we meet that her birthday was coming…

To start our day, the best sunrise ever… Our little camp spot was under a shroud of fog.  Even Megan admits it was a special way to start her birthday…

First on the agenda was to spoil the birthday girl with presents and a pancake breakfast…

Then to get ready for the day… Dave discovered our first possible flat tyre.  At least it is a slow leak and he reckons we’ll be right to get through to Karratha to get it fixed…

Before setting off for the day we headed back over the road for one last swim in the gorge

Then it was 130km of dirt road to reach Millstream Chichester National Park.  As luck would have it, we crossed paths with another ore train.  This one had 3 engines at the front followed by a whopping 236 ore carts.

130km of dirt, all down wind of any on-coming traffic… it was a dusty ride.  The car is covered in dust and unfortunately, it has found its way into the camper…

We ended the day with our first attempt at baking a cake in the Weber.  It actually turned out pretty well (after Dave cut away the burnt bits around the edges).

Apparently we have one happy girl who had a great birthday…

Happy birthday Megan. We thought of you and Opa tried to ring on Saturday,so lots of love went your way! I,m very impressed with the birthday cake - never seen anything like it being made out in the middle of nowhere before so you are really lucky. Thanks for the birthday love sent my way too!
