Day 31 – 19th June – Part II – Hamersley Gorge

From Wittenoom we kept on our westerly direction until we hit Hamersley Gorge.  Once again we were back in the Karijini National Park.  As you approach the area you actually drive on a road blasted from the gorge.  Obviously it is a big effort to do that, so the road is only one lane wide for the length of the gorge.  You have to radio your approach as you enter and cross your fingers that you don’t meet a truck coming the other way…

Here’s the view from the top of the gorge.

The rock walls in this gorge are amazing.  Apparently in the distant past our continent collided with another one.  The forces were so great the rock buckled and shifted…

Surprise, surprise, another steep climb to the bottom where we were greeted with this view

Further around to the right after clambering over more rocks we found this pool.  At the far end was a “Spa Pool” carved out of the rock…

Kids playing… not sure if there is any fabric left in the bum of their bathers?

At the end of the day we crossed the road to a bush camp.  We had the place to ourselves.  Here’s the view from the camper…
