Day 23 – 11th June – Part II – Hancock Gorge

Hancock Gorge wasn’t such a gentle trip down… the entire walk was rated Class 5, for ‘experienced’ bush walkers.  The steps we took into the gorge were steep and ridiculously high.  Luckily, none of these walks are any great distance, so although it is hard it is over relatively quickly.  The bottom holds much the same scenery as in the Weano Gorge.  Lots of walking on ledges right next to a stream with lots of river crossings.

Our trusty Line Leader, Megan, spotted this snake desperately trying to find a way under a rock…

Yet another wet crossing.  This one not so deep…

At the end of the wet crossing we came to this section.  The water in the channel was too deep to wade through so we had to cling for dear life to the rocks on the right and make our way to the other end…

Round the corner and we came to another tunnel, this one called ‘Spider Walk’.  Yep, that means you crawl through the tunnel the way Spidey would (incidentally, our Spidey has been M.I.A. since the mine tour… we have a feeling he is still riding the tour bus…).  This bit was fun…

The reward at the end is Kermits Pool.  There was a couple there who jumped in for a swim.  We hassled Aiden so much about the girl going in when he wouldn’t that he finally acquiesced…

More photos of the Spider Walk on the way back out

Back through the deep channel.

I still can’t believe over the course of the day not one of us got wet by accident or ended up bleeding ;)  It was an AWESOME day…
