Day 43 – 1st July – Broome

The plan was to pack up camp and head into Barn Hill for a night before hitting Broome.  However, someone mentioned school holidays were about to start so I had a bit of a panic about getting accommodation.  It turns out I was way off the mark… I rang a caravan park in Broome and it turns out the problem is not school holidays at all, but the Staircase to the Moon.  It occurs every month for about three days… and every man and his dog for miles comes to town to see it… and so there were no camp sites left that I could book into.

So we skipped Barn Hill, with the plan to go in there on the way back home, and thought we would just take a gamble on getting in somewhere in Broome.  It turns out this was a sound plan as most of the parks keep some sites free for blow-ins… so we managed to get a nice spot in a park and it was all relatively stress-free.  And to top it off, we picked the caravan park where some friends of ours from home are also staying.  Having had only our own company for the last six weeks it was a treat to sit and have a drink with someone else…
