Day 42 – 30th June – Eighty Mile Beach

The start of the day bought high tide… so breakfast, then straight down the beach (like every other man and his dog staying at Eighty Mile Beach).  Apparently there is nothing else to do here but fish…

Looking from the dunes down to the beach.  Dave and the kids just left of centre.

Looking up the beach from where Dave was fishing… surprise, surprise, none of them actually seemed to be catching much.

However, our two managed to snag a couple of Threadfin…

The trio returned to camp where we jumped in the car to head up the beach to go… fishing…

It was a nice drive on the beach.  Not boggy at all with no need to even let down the tyres.  Problem is when it’s a nice and easy drive the speed creeps up and up until you see the bumps a bit too late…   We hit a series of bump at speed… there was a lot of bouncing… and of course, we hadn’t bothered to tether anything in the back of the car… luckily the only thing the kids copped in the back of the head was a soft bathers bag… however, this crate didn’t fair so well…  As far as casualties go, a plastic crate is easy enough to replace…

A tough day at the beach… at least we had this spot all to ourselves

Posting this photo to show you the monster tides up here.  When we first parked the water was just in front of the car.  Two hours later the water is waaaaay out there somewhere.  The walk back to the bait bag kept getting longer and longer…  I think the little pile of sand on the left side of the photo is where the bait bag started.

The nice thing about monster tides are the shells that get left exposed… here’s my collection after only a few minutes of beach-combing

The only disappointing thing about our day is that we didn’t spot any of those sharks we’ve been hearing about…
